looking for the sunshine

Most of the time I use this blog as a wider way of sharing projects, thoughts and ideas. Sometimes I use it to documents small moments and events in time. Other times I use it like a well worn diary (if a little more edited), similar to writing out, or releasing a feeling, a thought, and moving on. Because I have always had the unfortunate tendency of wearing my heart on my sleeve. Or not often leaving things unsaid.

This week has not been the best week. Just a bit more tiring than usual, a little more rushed, slightly more uncooperative on the home front. No time for those half finished knitting or sewing projects and too cold to be out in the garden, all of which usually serves as a kind of therapy in amongst the stresses of daily life. On top of that speaking up for what you don't believe in (weed spraying at the local school) and finding those on the opposite side of the debate equally passionate. Some weeks are just plain hard, if only in an everyday kind of way.

So here are a few little pictures I found on my camera, and though I barely had time to pick up the camera this week, it is nice to find a few on there. It made me realise that it's not really all that bad. In every day, in every week, there are small moments of sunshine. Sometimes you just need to look a little harder to find them.

  1. Thank you for your posts Tania and hang in there! Be assured that you are not the only one who has weeks like these and putting this stuff out there for us to read reassures us...so glad I'm not the only one having a totally crap week this week! ;)

  5. I agree with Katie's comment, thanks for sharing the mediocre days too so we all know we are not alone either ;)
I feel the same this week although we had a daughter's much anticipated birthday we also lost most (10!!) of our chickens to a fox..we are devastated. They all had names and were played with often, much more than just egglayers.
Here's to a better week next week for us all. Have some extra coffee, knit and leave the housework.

  8. Yes some days and even some weeks can be far from pleasant.
Sometimes it can be hard to appreciate all the little things- a warm house, comfortable shoes, food in the pantry.
But it always gets better. x

  11. Hi Tania, having a hard week here too...hubby away for work, toddler with gastro, feeling very overwhelmed. But today i snuggled on the lounge with a milo and watched the wind whipping the trees back and forth and just like the weather...this too shall pass.

  12. Poison sprayed where kids play? So sorry you've met with opposition over objecting to that. A bath looks soothing....

  13. Yep. I have the same tendency. Hard when blogging publicly to NOT say some things. I had an issue at our school when I mentioned a site that sold recycled office supplies. I saw red when I was told it cost too much! I muttered something about the REAL cost and before I turned on my heel. Never mind, keep at it and good on you for raising the issue!

  14. Good for you for speaking up on the weed spraying issue.

I had a similar experience when I spoke up last year about all of the junk food being sold at the school canteen.

I was surprised at the resistance which I encountered.

However, sometimes things don't change immediately and I have noticed that this year, the Canteen Menu has changed for the better......

so hopefully your words will sink in and start some ripples.....

  16. Hi Tania, just found your blog today and been reading back a bit. The "Nourishing traditions" book sounds awesome, I would love to buy it... but I am vegetarian,so would it still contain plenty of content for me ? I do eat eggs and all dairy and have allways preffered butter to margarine.
I use butter beans when I feel like a pasta meal still, trying to cut out flour and do not use sugar.

  18. Finding the moments of sunshine in sometimes very ordinary weeks has kept me blogging for the last two years. To stop, take notice, find the joy and be inspired is a gift and your blog does this for lots of others. Be kind to yourself, toddlers can be tiring. mel x

  20. Every child is so very different in temperament aren't they.....we have had a week of tears and tantrums but tween style arghhhhhhhh

Sometimes we are so hell bent on being perfect parents that it doesn't sit well when we are finding it hard going for no particularly 'worthy' reason.....motherhood is a tough gig....you aren't alone x

  21. We all have some days that are better than others. Some days my kids get along really well then some days they don't. I agree with Jacaranda that motherhood is a tough gig. I enjoy the days that are special and know that they come and go but at least you are all together and love each other which what counts the most.
    P.S I love your clothesline photo x
