making time

Life can sometimes see you pulled in a million different directions. But this is not always unpleasant if these many different directions are what make us tick and indeed thrive. With the coming long weekend there are lots of things to think about. Food to cook for hungry hordes. Remembering where that hot cross bun recipe has gone to. The wrap up of this school week. Sports carnivals to attend, Easter hats to make (thank you Daniel) and a parade to attend. Yes, it feels as if there is so much to do. But it is all good for the main part. Even if a little exhausting at times. Then there are what you could call the lesser or negotiable essentials. Saurkraut to make, family cow keeping reading (quite fascinating!), kefir making and rows of knitting to squeeze in. Life is certainly busy. The house needs a good thorough clean. The garden needs constant watering during this mini heat wave. Sometimes I struggle with priorities, but priorities can be a subjective thing. It is the tricky balance of not only attending to the needs of the family and those in surrounding circles, but also the needs of yourself.

So I will make that extra batch of saurkraut today. I will sit down for a little while and read about the advantages of night time locking up of calves. I might finish knitting that sleeve. I will try not to feel guilty. Because sometimes we need to do the activities that make us tick. That somehow make us more capable of getting the bigger stuff done. After that extra cup of coffee.

I hope that you too can make a little time for the "lesser" activities today.

Wishing everyone a happy and joyful Easter.

  1. I agree, it's spending time on the little things that I enjoy doing that may not be very important at all (um, crocheting a bunny monster) that gives me the motivation to tackle things of greater priority. Hope you have a wonderful and relaxing Easter! Mel x

  2. Yep.
I'm having the day off from life today.
I'm going to shut down my brain - watch light and fluffy tv and eat a Cadbury Creme Egg and have my husband bring me cups of tea.
Oh yeah - and I might have a snooze.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to take out my brain at night and leave it on the bedside table, like you do with false teeth.

  3. Ahh, I see you have kefir grains..I wonder how you are finding them? We have some here given to us from a friend however I have become quite neglectful and am forgetting to feed it. I think it needs a nap as the bench seems too warm for it.

Lesser activities are vital to the day.. I totally agree!

  4. I want to have a pottering Easter break. Craft with the kids, baking and lots of gardening. And to work on my crochet. Oh and I love Saurkraut, yum. Have a Happy and relaxing Easter Tania xo

  5. Oh yes, I feel pulled in a million directions so this weekend is all about slowing down and just being in the moment.
We've been using both milk and water kefir grains for a few months now and more recently cultured vegetables. Am really enjoying the process and learning more as I go.
Happy Easter to you and yours Tania.

  8. Lovely post Tania and I know exactly what you mean! Whilst all those things are fun, they are tiring, and if we do not take the time to do a few things that truly make us happy, then we will not have the energy for anything else either :-)

    Have a lovely Easter!

  10. Exactly! I have been reminded again lately that I can't do everything and not have a break, if I want to feel happy. Finding the balance is a continuous thing. Priorities are subjective, aren't they? What seemed so important yesterday, may not be today, and what I feel I NEED to do may not matter to anyone but me.

Today though, I do need to wash cloth nappies and dishes. Four day weekends and running out of dish washing liquid midway... :)
