weekend : open garden

shortbread
coconut ice

It was a weekend full of baking and volunteering. Our kid's school had an open garden both days of the weekend. It was a chance for them to show off their kitchen garden and promote their new community cookbook. There was lot's of tea, coffee and cakes to sell. Early mornings for the men getting everything set up. Lot's of kid's with a little too many sweets in their system. Let's just say we are all completely exhausted!

How was your weekend?

looks like a great weekend though, they can be utterly exhausting those kind of events.

How exciting for the kids to be able to show off their fantastic looking garden. And I love shortbread, especially if it is with a cup of tea!

What a brilliant weekend - I love that so many schools now are getting children growing things - one of the most positive things to be taught from a young age I think. Lovely pictures, Tania

How wonderful! I would have loved gardening at school. How times change and for the better.

There was a fair at the school down the street from our new house on Saturday. I was scraping away at underlay and dreaming I was wandering about the fair eating fairy floss. In the afternoon, after many thundery rumbling warnings, green and grey clouds rolled in and it hailed. I do hope everyone got packed up in time!

Gosh haven't schools come a long way since our own childhoods? I love when they get the community involved in this type of thing.

I am loving the look of that orange cake :)

It sounds like a busy weekend but lots of fun. I think it's wonderful that schools are teaching children important skills like growing and make them aware of where food comes from. Your cooking looks delicious, I hope it was a successful day for your school. x
