weekend : tables and tipping

I treated myself to a spot of tip shopping and could not go past these rusty old beauties to sit alongside those scales. Aren't they the perfect blue? All for a fiver and a little old aluminum dripping pan is hidden in there too.

Also from the tip shop some favourite classic titles in old hard covers. There is just something about the musty scent of an old book and  I do believe it makes for a somewhat more authentic reading experience.

The table is in the house! Sanded, reinforced and polished. Daniel has certainly been busy. Only trouble is that table is so big that we need more chairs.

Pulling out my pre-baby wardrobe from storage. It is a nice feeling to be able to wear some of my old clothes again.

Enjoying the last of the lilac season.

How was your weekend?

  1. gorgeous finds, and I love your table! Do you have the name of that paint colour?

I miss our old tip, it was a 10 minute drive to the recycle store - funny the things I miss since the move! xx

  2. I couldn't agree with you more on the musty, dusty smell of an old book. It's the scent of history, ink and loveliness in one! :-) Coveting the stack you've amassed there and I'm almost as envious of the rusty beauties!

  4. Funny you mention the dripping tin Tania. I've been at my Mum's, backwards and forwards over the weekend, as she just had an operation and I've been helping her out. We were reminiscing last night at how we used to grease the biscuit trays with dripping back in 'those' days. No baking paper back then. Biscuits tasted better I reckon! I have a lot of enamelware too. It's really lovely.

  5. Oooh, I do so love a spot of tip shopping! You've done well with your purchases, those pre-loved metal vessels will look smashing alongside the auction scales.

I often get confused at our tip shop exactly how the pricing works..generally I place things in a pile and then the attendant comes over and says how much for the lot. But what if I want to add more...or see something on the way out?

I can't get over those books you found too, amazing what some people will discard!!

  6. Squiggly Rainbow - it's actually original paint on the legs. It's a coolish green and reminds me of the greens that were popular in the 30's to the 50's.

  7. I miss our old tip shop..it was only minutes from where we lived and the bargins were many.
A few more mismatched chairs around your table will be perfect :)

  8. I love tip shopping. We have a recycle centre next to our tip where they sell great stuff. I got a lovely white shabby little bird cage last week. Why do people throw this stuff out?
