the custardy shrug

Sometimes the heat can be a little easier to deal with when you have a knitting project just waiting for those moments when you need to slow down a little. Preferably near a fan.

This project was from my copy of Debbie Bliss' Ultimate Book of Baby Knits. In a happy, custardy yellow colour in pure new wool.

Yes, another project for Violet. I'm afraid there's a bit of knitting  favourtism going on here.

Please don't look to closely. I'm not entirely happy with how it turned out, but I do believe this is more a reflection on myself (and school holiday distractions) than the pattern itself.

It is a little too big. But not to worry.

And of course right after this picture our shrug was ripped straight off by the little model. Afterall it is hard work modelling knitwear for Mum in Summer.

Do you knit in Summer?

Ravelled here.

  1. your knitting is going so well!! it looks great! i would really like to knit well - but i just can't seem to get my head around the intricacies of the wording in the books. i've watched your progress a little enviously and might just try again when the weather cools... not because it's too hot here in Tas but because the garden calls less vigorously in winter!!!
as usual, your violet does the modelling so well!

  2. Yes I knit in summer...although in Sydney I'm wondering if we're even in summer with the weather we've been having! I'm still working through this - http://flepandco.blogspot.com.au/2011/10/knittings-on.html

It's taking a lot longer than I thought it would because I get distracted with other projects...

  3. I think it is just lovely; I love the pattern and the color!
Ever since I learned to knit a year and a half ago I have knit every single day...I love it! I feel like I have so many years to catch up on for the years I wasnt' a knitter.

  4. Beautiful! And a great colour too. She'll grow into it right in time for the chilly days x

  5. It's gorgeous!
    And I adore that colour.
    It's fit perfectly by wintertime.
Yep, I knit all the time no matter the weather.

  6. Love this little shrug Tania, I am sure it will fit Violet very soon, hopefully by the time the colder months arrive.

I have been knitting and crocheting this Summer as you are right it is something to do in this heat...

  7. I love that color!

It's winter here (Missouri, US), but yes, I knit and crochet in the summer. I like to take small yarn projects with me when we go camping.

  8. I've been knitting this Summer too. My bump is too big to allow me to do any real jewellery making, so knitting is the perfect sitting in front of a fan craft. Your shrug is super sweet. Don't be too hard on yourself!

'Knitting favouritism', I like that. Smaller knits are quicker though! I've been trying to keep things balanced. I've finished a cardigan for Cohen and am now working on a blanket and a raglan sweater for the baby. There's more wool on the way for a cabled vest for Cohen. I just love toddlers in woolen vests in Winter! :)

  9. I think it is so great that you knit actual clothes, that have to fit somebody! Scarves and dishcloths are one thing, but making something to fit, that really puts the pressure on :-) .

I don't knit or crochet is summer unless it is unseasonably cold. I can't stand the sweaty fingers feeling of handling wool in summer.

The shrug looks great on her, and being a little big will probably be the perfect size when cool weather eventually rolls around.

  11. It's simply darling! And yes, I spent all last summer knitting a big long fall sweater for my oldest daughter and it was great. I plan to spend this summer knitting the same sweater for me.

  13. Yes I knit in summer! Its the only way I get things done for winter (rather than after winter!!)
