weekending
This weekend I've been :
Experimenting with the bread making. Twisted whey wheat rolls from The Home Creamery. Making a sizeable dent in all that whey from the ricotta making. (the recipe can be found online here, though I replaced the sugar with a few tablespoons of honey)
Attempting to do a little more dressmaking from The Stylish Dress Book. I've had this book for quite some time and well, it's really overdue that I make something from it. While I was at it I traced and cut out for both B and N. And that's as far as I got. Me and my little "helper".
Replacing the white flour for wholemeal spelt in our favourite pancake recipe ( and minus the sugar). Funnily enough, I don't think anyone really noticed. Of course smothering with fried banana, maple syrup and whipped cream might have helped.
Finding places for all those tomatoes to ripen. This was the bulk of our crop and as is usually the case around here, the tomatoes are just becoming prolific when the frosts start. And right on cue they have started. Just light ones. But frosts nonetheless.
How was your weekend?

Those pancakes look oh so yummy!!
ReplyDeleteWe had a glut of tomatoes a few weeks back, now sadly, I am back to having to buy them again :(
I've been sneaky by taking away and adding certain ingredients when I cook...funnily enough, I made a sugar-free chocolate slice last week that everybody loved :)
ReplyDeleteYour weekend sounds delightful.
x
LOVE all the photos. Those tomatoes will ripen pretty quickly in the window. We had a lovely 3 day weekend here with lots of photo opportunities as well as a nice nap each day.

ReplyDeleteHi Tania,
ReplyDeleteThose bread rolls and pancakes look delicious. I have copied out the pancake recipe.
Have you made your own yogurt before? It is so easy. I blogged about it here:
http://julie-beautyintheeveryday.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/yoghurt-is-so-easy-to-make.html
It is a lot cheaper too.
Have a great week. xxoo
that bread looks YUM as do the pancakes!!
ReplyDeleteOh yum; your weekend looks as delicious as ours. One question: I can't make yummy bread and rolls and other treats for my family because if I do - I'll eat them! And I'm trying to lose weight not gain it. How do you make so many delicious things and not gain any weight? I'm going to go look for that dress book now. Looks great.
ReplyDeleteOh, such beautiful rolls!

Something, bird or possum perhaps, has been nibbling on my tomatoes. It hadn't even occurred to me that I could pick them and bring them inside to ripen. I had been imaging 'vine ripened tomatoes' but if I leave them out there I won't end up with a single one. Glad I saw your post. I now have them lined up on the window ledge and they do look lovely. Fingers crossed they will ripen. :)
ReplyDeleteI saw your post about making ricotta and thought 'I hope she doesn't throw away the liquid.' Those buns look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI tried baking pancakes with half wholemeal, half white, but they became really dry... might have to give the spelt a go. Or the fried bananas. Gosh they look good.
All of that just looks so scrummy. I make the kids wholemeal pancakes with practically no sugar and they devour them too....but yes they love their maple syrup!!! Your little helper looks quite the assistant too!!!
ReplyDeleteThis all looks delicious but that bread! Oh my goodness, it looks amazing! I hope you have a lovely, lovely week :)
ReplyDeleteKatie x
You busy bee. Those bread rolls look delicious. I can imagine how tasty they would be topped with your homegrown tomatoes. x
ReplyDeleteTania, do you have a pattern for that GORGEOUS little vest that you can share? x
ReplyDeleteThe pancakes...YUMMY!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved every pictorial moment. Treat after treat. Thanks
ReplyDeleteSnap! I looked at the picture of those rolls and thought they look like the whey rolls from the home creamery book...then I read the post. Aren't they just divine and yummy...and I'm going to try the honey substitute too. Have a great day!
