goings on

Thrifted 50's wool blanket with hand embroidered initials and appliqued bunnies. Rescued from the bargain bin. There is a little patching work to be done, but I think it will add to the home spun look.

Julia sorted all my buttons into colours for me.

Buckwheat pikelet for Violet.  A favourite lunch box filler this week. Though she preferred to wave it around than actually eat it.

Chocolate. I confess I had more than two. I think it may even have been more than four.

Utilizing the extra window sill space in winter. It is usually wound out in summer.

Wondering what Julia will eat once mandarins are out of season.

Sketching with pen again. I haven't really done any drawing since high school.

My poor bare vegie garden still managed to produce some broccoli and kale.

Enjoying the sorting of a big bag of hand-me-downs from a local mum.

***

Rain is forecast for the next few days.  I can hear it now beginning to fall. This is wondeful news for our water tanks (we actually had to buy a load of water last week) . Bad news for the full load of washing that is on the line. I'm hoping to get some sewing done in this weather and will be googling for a recipe for corned beef pie to use up some leftovers.

Hoping that the day is kind to you.

  2. I had a little blanket like that one, except for in pink. It had a very similar applique/embroidery too. Not sure if I still have it though, will have to look through my collection.

    Lovely sketches and photos...

I've been hitting the chocolate a bit too lately... perhaps it's a cold weather comfort thing.

  9. I love your sketches - what pen do you use? I can't find a black pen I am happy with ... Here in Sydney I was helping out at our school athletics carnival ... Till it got rained out. Now I have to deal with the wet muddy clothes and groundsheets ... Not as pretty as your blanket and hand me downs!

  10. My daughter just reminded me the other day that she'd had so much fun playing with my buttons when she was little and I was to make sure I kept them for her child to enjoy!!
Raining here too and I have washing drying above the wood heater :o(

  16. Gosh, your drawings look amazing, Tania!! Mandarins are the fruit of choice in our house at the moment, too. How did the rain fall? We had virtually a whole day of non-stop rainshowers.

  17. So many great things in this post, but special mention to the pen sketches, clever work!! We try to pretend mandarins don't go out of season here as my son can eat a kilo in one sitting, no troubles, he's still freaking out we can't afford bananas, love Posie

  24. Hi Tania, what a great find that blanket was. Do you make your buckwheat pancakes from scratch or are they the packet one? Hope you get to do your sewing. have a good one. Jane x

  25. Thenewgoodlife - I couldn't find one. I had in my mind to do one similar to one that a local cafe makes, so I shredded the corned beef into a white sauce and made them into pot pies with a pastry lid.
Jane - I make the buckwheat pikelets from scratch using a mix of buckwheat and wheat flour.

  26. Your drawings are lovely. Makes mine look like a 'child's'... however I still enjoy doing it.
