hibernating

Though the weekend weather started out pleasant enough, it soon deteriorated into some icy, windy and sleety weather. Just in time for my warm-weather loving brother and his family. It was nice to get together again and see the cousins play together. It brought back memories of that connection cousins share.

My own kiddies surprised me with a little assortment of presents on Sunday morning.  Though there was no breakfast in bed (I cooked pancakes for a crowd instead), it was still a special day of family and being together. Firstly extended family, and then just us. So while the icy wind howled outside and rain made the occasional appearance, we were all indoors together. Enjoying the fire, cheese platters, frittata  and hot drinks. Though I did have to brave that cold for two loads of washing.

I remember now why I love the cold.

How was your weekend? Was it cold where you are? Did you tend to hibernate too?

  1. Was freezing here and very windy. I decided to battle the clothes line too and almost had to hurricane peg the washing to the line but it dried amazingly quickly. In the kitchen I made gorgeous cinnamon rolls, pizza rolls for school lunches, banana oat muffins, had a bolagnaise on the simmer, made up a lovely batch of potato gnochi and then another loaf of bread! The cold weather brings out the best cooking in me :)

  2. It's lovely seeing cousins playing together and the memories those times together make. The weather was quite sunny our way but the wind came up in the afternoon and made it pretty chilly but the girls still ran around outside, maybe they were warmer that way.... It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend and mother's day. x

  6. It was cold here too for our weekend celebrations. Of course right now it is the most beautiful sunny day. Love your mothers day gifts, I can't wait for when my kids are older and start getting the homemade gifts.

  9. It was warm here, though the temperature certainly dropped in the shade and wind on Tamborine Mountain. We were forever taking our cardigans on and off as we walked around the markets. It was hot in the sun, cold in the shade and nothing in between!

Sounds like a nice bit of hibernating at your house. We had the morning out at the markets, then I got out in the garden while the kids napped and before going to see family. I dug up some more of the old watermelon garden bed and hope to have a second lot of ten strawberries planted out soon. :)

  10. It was cold but not too bad for us. We also had family over to celebrate mothers day so there was plenty of baking.
I really like the verse on the cookie. :)

And Violet's like sleeves looks so lovely...can't wait to cast it on. Wishing you a wonderful homey week full of knitting and cups of tea. :) x

  15. I was getting a sunburn in the mountains this weekend...quite the opposite of hibernating. Blogging is so interesting to me because of this connection to people around the world. Life is a constant ebb and flow and that comes through to me clearly and with amusement and I go on and on about spring flowers while around the world others like you are harvesting and turning on the heat! I love it.

I am glad you had what seems to be a lovely mother's day. Your table looks so inviting and your children so sweet in their gifts to you.

  16. What a lovely way to spend a chilly Mother's Day weekend. What gorgy presents your kiddies gave you. I had a lovely time away on the weekend. Hard to come home which is rare for me. Enjoy your week, Tania x

  17. I am enjoying hibernating too ... Nursing a cold, happy to be at home (I am an introvert too!) sitting by the heater knitting ... A little baking ... Music playing ... Thankful for some quiet days.
Sorry about your Pop, he sounds like a wonderful grandfather.
