Very, very early on Saturday morning we awoke to the silent, gentle fall of snow, barely visible in the dim light, and our valley soon became transformed into it's own little winter wonderland. It doesn't snow here very often, and some years not at all. But this year we've been blessed with not just one downfall, but two, and barely a week apart. I don't think we ever really tire of it though. Funny to think that I'd never seen snow until five years ago. Perhaps that explains my child-like excitement.
Soccer was cancelled, but not before a shorts-clad-all-dressed-for-soccer-boy had been out playing in the snow. The kids rolled the snow into big balls and made their first proper snowman. Our snowman stayed intact the rest of that icy cold, windy day and only melted on Sunday with it's bright Spring-like sunshine. He did look quite the sight though, when his head fell off.
I couldn't help but think of this song. Oh, I do love you Bing.
And now, this overcast Monday morning, I'm sipping on my coffee, thinking about inserting a zipper into the dress I made on the weekend (I promise to show you later) and wondering if I will have time to cast on for my Tea Leaves. Because there is always so much to do on a Monday, isn't there?
I'm hoping your week is off to a very good start.
lucky you, that looks like so much fun.

I still don't think that there is anything as exciting and beautiful as watching the snow fall! I had a little laugh at the shorts in the snow, I've seen lots of kiwi kids romping around in similar and it never ceases to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteI just love the pic of the outside of your house too. I have been dreaming of building something similar for so long!
Wow! My little girl is so jealous - it is cold enough to snow here but without topography she is out of luck lol How lovely to wake up to it.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful, thank you for posting this, the closest we'll ever get here is frost.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh you LUCKY DUCKS.....SNOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
ReplyDeleteGosh I bet it was cold though? Freezin in fact? Looks like your washing may have snap frozen too LOL
Looks like Violet was a little unsure of it all :)
AND Julie and Julia was on last night on Gem!
I would love for my kids to experience this!
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Inverell as a teenager it snowed- it was very exciting!
So funny reading this gorgeous post with me in a three quarter sleeve t-shirt and shorts! Weather has turned crazy warm here all of a sudden. Would love for there to be snow instead. Wishing you a beautiful week and can't wait to see that Tea Leaves in the future :) x
ReplyDeleteI remember the excitement of snow each winter growing up. Good luck with your zipper x
ReplyDeleteWOw it looks lovely, we don't get sonw here (Dandenong Ranges, Victoria) but it sure has been cold. Looking at your son I can't help but see how much he has grown, my eldest son is 15(I also have an elder daughter and a younger son) and I just had to tell you what a wonderful time you have coming up, so many people complain about teenagers but I have loved watching both my older kids, but particularly my son grow into a wonderful young man - it's beautiful. xxBrenda
ReplyDeleteOh look at dear Violet. You must just want to cuddle her in that outfit. So cute.
ReplyDeleteSnow is pure magic to me! :-)
ReplyDeleteJem xXx
That is one impressive snowman.
ReplyDeleteAnd how sweet is Violet all rugged up in her snow suit.

Hi Tania,
ReplyDeleteWow! How beautiful snow is! And fun!
Cheers from Liz near Wollongong xo
longing for some snow at home here, a rare event, it got close on Friday but not quite.
ReplyDeleteIt seems so strange to see snow - we are in the middle of a heatwave here and you have snow.
ReplyDeleteNina x
Enjoy your winter wonderland! I laughed to see your son in shorts!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful is that Tania? I have never seen snow, and can only imagine how good it was to wake up to see and enjoy...I love the jolly snowman!

I love your snow photos Tania. Washing on the line? I've never lived with snow, actually I've never been in snow for more that about 5 minutes. I will head to head south (from Qld) one year for the experience. Jx
ReplyDeleteps. what a bummer that soccer was cancelled. obviously dangers aside, the boys would have a fun slipping and sliding with a wet ball!
Yay, you got the snow! I was like a child in our snowfall a couple of weeks ago, it was my first ever and very exciting, I hope it comes to us again, I'm looking forward to next winter again already. Your snowman is very impressive, so much joy for the kids, makes the cold all worth while doesn't it! I remember reading about your snow last year when you were off to soccer as well and I couldn't believe they played soccer in the snow, glad for your sake it was cancelled this year! :) Keep warm Karen x
