And the reason for sewing like a crazy lady just before going away? My excuse was that Violet really had no pretty pants to wear. Pants have become her daily uniform, as otherwise her little crawling knees would suffer. And her Nonna has a tiled floor.
So I (surprisingly) quickly sewed up four pairs of the often-used pattern for Quick Change Trousers from Anna Maria Horner's book, using the cloth nappy alteration seen here. You can see previous versions here and here. It really is a lovely little pattern. I mixed and matched assorted prints of (new) scrap cotton voile, vintage cotton, linen and even an old tablecloth. Lighter materials make them Summer friendly.
I do love baby sewing (though this baby is almost no baby). So quick and satisfying. And so little fabric.
apologies for the poor picture quality - turns out I needed to clean the lens.. |
And that's the excited frown, not the angry one.
Gorgeous little pants...i love sewing for my twins too...and so much easier to fit cloth nappy bottoms that way!!love the excited look!
ReplyDeleteOh my, your Violet is cute!! Well, done with the pants sewing - I love your great combination of colour. I tend to spend too much time dithering about colour choices and not being really happy at the end *sigh*
ReplyDeleteThat last photo is just too cute, love the frown. I just started following your blog, I love it very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking a banshee war cry ... glad it was just a bit of excitement. The little pants are lovely! And I'm sure Violet has put miles and miles on them all ready.
ReplyDeleteOOh they are so sweet Tania and I love the mix of fabrics you have used.
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to make Kaizer some nappy pants for our trip to Brisbane in a few weeks. It's so hot there at the moment and while I don't mind him running around bare bummed or in a nappy at home it's much nicer for his nappy to be covered while we are out :)

love them Tania, such a great way to use up small amounts of fabric.
ReplyDeleteThey look so cute Tania. Violet is going to be a very well dressed little girl now with all of those pants you made. xx
ReplyDeletelove the mix match of fabrics tania and the practicality of such comfy pants for busy little people. so often you see children this age in clothes that don't let them move freely. great pattern & loving violet's adorable face. xo.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute pants! I've just requested that book from the library as a result of seeing them. Love your fabric selections. I'm finding not knowing the sex this time a bit difficult! :)
ReplyDeleteoh YUM!!! (that pants and the babe wearing them!)

ReplyDeleteWow, I would love seven of them - one for every day of the week!! That would be so cool...I must learn to sew one day :-)
ReplyDeletecute photos I love those trousers all my boys had that type of trousers and a few I made were made from old curtains.
ReplyDeleteThey are so sweet, Tania. I love the fabrics you've used. Are you going to start selling these? I think you sooo should!

The pants are gorgeous. I love the facial expression in the last photo. She looks like a girl who has no trouble expressing what she wants.
ReplyDeleteGreat little pants and great little 'model'!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Robyn
Gorgeous, I love this pattern, and have been making a few pairs for my shop and markets. I did wonder about cloth bums though- my littlest has just turned 3 and is well and truly out of nappies, the size 2 is fine for length, but quite firm around the bottom- and she's quite skinny.
ReplyDeleteI love these! Have seen this pattern before and thought I might purchase it! I made my daughter some pants two days ago just by making my own pattern from a pair of her pants... I will have to give the turned up cuffs a go! :)
ReplyDeleteI think you should start selling these as i'd love a couple of pairs for when i have a cloth bummed baby (soon i hope!) and i have no idea how to sew & i know i'll never learn! Just an idea :)
