School holidays and morning soccer clinic for the boy have made mornings a slower, girlier affair around here. Extended pyjama wearing, hula hoop play and some mother daughter knitting have been some highlights. Not such a highlight was catching a cold. But not to worry.
I have started knitting some more of these dishcloths from this yarn. I've made many of these over the past few years for myself and as part of christmas or house warming presents. My old ones (made almost 2 years ago) ones are still going strong, but I find I really need a few more to add to my collection. I don't usually use them for the dishes, but for wiping benches. They've outlasted any other cloths I have and are just a nice little touch of handmade for everyday. I usually throw them in the wash every other day with the teatowels. Occasionally I boil them in a saucepan to freshen them up.
Julia has been learning to knit these past few months and she has mastered the basic knit stitch. Things sometimes go a little awry when starting a new row, but we are getting there. I love that it is something she wants to do. I wonder what kind of knitter I would be today if I had started at her age.
Hope your week has got off to a good start.
Isn't it wonderful being able to share your passion with your children? Tegan learnt to knit last year, still very basic and Dawson has been nagging me to sit down and teach him so maybe when the holidays start. Only thing is he is left handed so I don't know whether that will make it challenging or not.
ReplyDeleteGot to love a handmade dishcloth. I have 6 that I knitted 6 years ago that are still going strong, though a little faded plus the ones I crocheted last year using thrifted cotton. I would like to start making more for face cloths as well.
Hope the holidays treat you well.

I love using handmade crochet and knit washers in my home too..
ReplyDeleteIt is so gorgeous that you and your daughter can knit together..
I too have been knitting with my eldest daughter (she started last year). She is planning her Xmas gift giving and has a little dolls blanket on the needles using some self striping yarn which is keeping it interesting for her..
Jodie :)
I use knitted dishcloths too, some were gifts from my mum and others I made myself. I wish I had one in pink now though. Will have to cast one on shortly. How exciting that you are passing your love on knitting on to your daughter
ReplyDeleteOh you little knitter is just adorable! I did learn at a young age how to knit but always was and probably always will be hopeless!! I learnt to crochet last year and I love it! Sometimes it has nothing to do with age! Enjoy your girly moments xx
ReplyDeleteI love that she is knitting with her little sis looking on! That pic of them cuddling just brightened my day...hope you are staying warm this holidays...got to love staying in the pj's x
ReplyDeleteKnitted dishcloths are the best! e use ours every day and just cjhuck them in the wash and away we go. Should make a few new ones though. Will earmark that pattern. What a beautiful little knitter! Had a friend introduce her little one to knitting in the round (leg warmers are on the menu) and now she never has issues with starting and finishing a row. WIshing you a gorgeous week. :) x
ReplyDeleteLove that pic of your girls cuddling, perhaps crochet next for you both? melx
ReplyDeleteLove your photos Tania. I too knit dishcloths. They are so handy. I have different colored ones. One color for the bathroom, one for the toilet and another for the kitchen. It is great your daughter wants to knit too. Hope you feel better soon. Xxoo
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit on this gorgeous photo? Violet's chubby little hand emerging from all those bangles!!!!!! Priceless!
ReplyDeleteI hope my sons want to learn to knit. I really wanted a daughter to teach all that I've learnt and like you, wonder how good she'd be by my age having started so young! Alas, I have beautiful sons who may think it girly. I certainly won't tell them that! Dishcloths are becoming my new knit-junk. It used to be beanies but I have run out of little heads. Now my quick fix fast knit are dishcloths. Hoorah for variety.
ReplyDeleteYou must be chuffed that Julia is wanting to knit I'm sure seeing you knit has sparked her desire to use the needles. Such a lovely thing for the two of you to be able to do together. I stopped by and picked up some of that gorgeous yarn to crochet some dishcloths my are looking rather used. That photo of your two girls is very sweet. Enjoy your Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteI love every bit of this post - but especially the sharing the knitting. It worked in reverse with me and my mum, I learned off of her mum and then later in life my mum started knitting. I spotted country style mags there.....heheehe...I love that mag - your page banner always makes me think of it :D
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful for your dear girl! I am with you. I wish I'd started much earlier than 27! Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI love your washing cloth. They really are so much better than any standard, store-bought version. I keep giving all the ones I make away as gifts....I really need to make some for myself! All in due time.
My niece (5 years old) loves to knit with me. It is one of the things she repeatedly asks for when she visits. We're still at the me holding the sticks along with her stage, but she really does understand it...just lacks a little fine motor control. I can't wait til she gets older and cross my fingers she'll still think its as much fun then.
I hope you fight off the cold! That photo of your girls hugging is just sweeter than sweet!
Tania I am not a knitter but I do love to crochet and I have just finished my first two dishcloths made from Bendigo Cotton. I am pretty happy with them and will be making more. I especially think they will make great gifts if put with some lovely soap or body scrub.
