baby it's cold outside

Well, I am most happy to say that we did got our snow. Our (likely) one downfall for the year. Though not as heavy as previous years. It started off as a sunny, crystal clear day, and then a huge blackish wall of cloud came over in the early afternoon. The hail started, then the rain and finally the snow. While we didn't get a lot at home, a ten minute drive into the mountains didn't disappoint. I must say that local snow never fails to bring a little excitement to life here. The silent, delicate fall of snow never ceases to amaze me. I think I get as excited as the kids do!

I love that we get to experience all the different seasons here. From scorching Summers to the occasional snowy Winters. The warm fire, hot chocolate and tea were appreciated just that little bit more than usual on our return home.

But the snow is a pretty fleeting thing here. This morning it was for the main part gone, apart from the odd patch near the river with mountains appearing as if they had a sprinkling of icing sugar.

The cold chill in the air remains.  True windy Alpine weather today. The perfect excuse for a little time on the sewing machine and at the knitting needles, don't you think?

Wishing you all a very good weekend.

  1. These photos are stunning Tania. I love all of the snow on the tall grasses and the snow caught in the tree. I would be so excited to get to see snow even if it was fleeting we don't get to experience each of the seasons quite the same here in Queensland. Enjoy your sewing and knitting, sounds like fun to me. I'm hoping to get a bit of crochet done here after the cleaning, my little reward. Have a lovely weekend. x

  5. Gosh no wonder it is so cold and windy here in southern Qld. I have never seen snow, it did snow here four years ago on the nearby Bunya Mountians however I was 1 week off having twins so I stayed near the hospital. Enjoy your sewing and knitting, I am crocheting and stoking the fire.

  7. We see snow on the mountains from here but it's only ever snowed here a couple of times that I remember and it didn't settle. I reckon we'll head up to cradle for a day in the snow this winter. It really transforms a place doesn't it. Have a lovely day :)

  9. What magic photography, really beautiful shots to capture your hit of snow. My kids for it to snow here, which is so unlikely. So very envious from here in QLD. Nx

  10. How absolutely beautiful! Amazing! I'm so jealous, boiling here, how well that would go with Lamb Shanks.. tea, fire... much too warm here for those things!

Are you in the ACT? You are lucky to have such defined seasons, pretty much just hot here and then crazy hot with an occasional topical pour down. It's lovely how delicate it all looks there. What I wouldn't give for cuddling and knitting weather!

    Enjoy the weekend :)

  14. Snow, wow how exciting and just what you need to pull up out of a winter slump. Must be lovely to have those defined seasonal changes. Up here it's just 9 months of hot with intermittent rain or 3 months of cold nights and sun sun sunshiny days. The sunshine means we can't complain but it would be nice to see everything change so clearly every 3 months. melx

  16. I am not surprised it was so cold here in the city as well and it seemed like it could snow any minute. Looks just so pretty, your pictures are beautiful.

  17. I am so glad you all enjoyed it so very much. Snow certainly has magic properties and only after months and months of snow does it become drudgery rather than delight. Sounds like you live in paradise!

  23. OH BRRRRrrrr... That does look chilly. We get snow fall about once a year as well in January or February here in South Carolina. I'm glad the children got to play in some snow followed by hot cocoa.
