home corners

A few little pics of home today.. the tidier parts anyway. Though it does feel good to have much of the house decluttered, I had given myself permission to have the week off from this activity. Only the kitchen and half the pantry to go now. After several full car loads to Vinnie's the house feels strangely lighter. It has been a purge of sorts. Getting rid of those things that were no longer serving any purpose, but were, as a whole, overwhelming me as I went about daily tasks. "A place for everything and everything in it's place".  That's what I'm aiming for. Nearly there.

Wishing you all a pleasant Friday.

creative space : progress

Squares, squares and more squares. Ever so slowly, progress is being made on my doona cover. I am wondering what possessed me to choose five inch squares. It's obviously taking me much longer than expected. I do hope nobody is expecting all my corners to match up...because I'm just thinking that it won't be happening. Obviously my wonky template and starting the project with kitchen scissors (!) didn't really help in that regard. But that's okay. We are going to embrace the wonky handmade look.

All those years of vintage sheet collecting is proving to be worth it.

back in the routine

I had a few plans for crafting with the kid's during the holiday's. Some coloured eggs perhaps and a little sewing. But, guess what? It didn't happen. I guess I'm okay with that. Sometimes you just don't have the time to do everything. And you have to let it go. There's always a next time.

This morning it's back to school for the kid's. They attend a lovely little school in the village with a small number of students. How quickly did two and a half weeks pass? Now here we are, back in the daily routine.

high country

These were taken yesterday from the viewing platform that looks out upon the highest mountain in Australia, Kosciusko. It is breathtakingly beautiful up there. It has a desolate beauty with bare looking, rolling, rocky mountains, but if you look really closely you will see the vivid colour in the native fauna.

From here it is either a 16 or 18 km walk to the summit. I am quite keen to do it when Violet is older. I have pleasant memories of doing the walk with my family when I was about 10.

As we drove through the towns and caught little bits of their Anzac parades, it made me feel even more appreciative of this beautiful country that we have here.

in between

In between lot's of family visits I have been squeezing in a little time for these projects..

Some vintage sheeting squares for a doona cover project

My kind husband bought me these and they have now been filled with various quince jams and green tomato pickles.

I am thinking cushions with these new fabrics bought here and here.
Quite liking my new scissors.

And, of course, no long weekend would be complete with out a little reading material. Enjoying the latest copy of Frankie.

Hope you are all enjoying your long weekend.

in town

I must have been feeling brave yesterday. And energetic too, I might add. All four of us headed into our town for the main purpose of grocery shopping. But first, we had a few more interesting things to do.
First stop was our new library where we always find something new and interesting. Then we headed to my favourite coffee shop and treated ourselves to some sweet things. I had my once (sometimes twice) a week coffee. It was good!
The beautiful reds in the garden were at our post office. My new scissors arrived! As well as some beautiful fabric which I will post about soon.
A fossick around the op shops (and the dropping off of my many bags from my clean out). Careful about what I'm coming home with.
To complete the sugar overload of the day (goodness me) we stopped in at the old fashioned sweets shop with all the jars lined up. It was only one little thing each, and there I am after unwrapping Julia's lollipop.
Some goats caught our attention in the back of a truck. Were they on their way or on their way back from The Show?
And then..off to do the groceries.

little bits of autumn

My favourite season. Beautiful shades of yellow. Bringing nature indoors. Time for a little writing. Slower bread rising. More cups of tea. The last of the tomatoes.

Clean mess

You don't get anything clean without getting something else dirty.  ~Cecil Baxter

This week so far has mainly been about cleaning up...the day to day messes as well as the twice yearly big clean out I tend to do. Which often makes me feel a little overwhelmed. To clean out you need to make a big mess and then you need to clean that up too.

My least favourite aspect of cleaning...ironing

Julia's iron
And my mending basket is calling...

But, I am slowly getting there...
