plans

Those brief little pockets of sunshine during these short and cold Winter days can be just what is needed. A wander around the garden, a weed pulled here and there with a small dose of vitamin d, can be quite therapeutic. While lady beetle collecting and a kick around of the soccer ball kept the younger ones happy, we talked about our plans for the place. A large vegie garden for the front, perfect for those sprawling pumpkins and zucchini. A few rows of berries beside it. A few more (vegie and rose) beds ready to be filled with dirt. And then there is the chicken coop. The one that we have planned for so long, but were so worried about getting it right that nothing as yet had been decided. But as we sat on the decided space (for the chickens) on the weekend, talking soon became something a little more definite. Some poking around the shed revealed a heap of suitable materials that had been salvaged here and there. Before the end of that day we had our basic chicken frame up. Photos to come soon - I promise!

  3. Some very exciting plans ahead. I'm slightly envious at you having the space for sprawling pumpkins.

  4. Oh how exciting! I somehow can't believe you haven't had any as it will definitely fit in with your lifestyle and way of keeping home. You will love having chooks and they are just plain fun to watch with their antics ;) Awesome pets too, very low maintenance and if handled regularly, will come to love a cuddle!
Just be 110% sure the coop is fox proof, they are not called clever for nothing as we have sadly found out.

  5. Hi Tania,

Your veggie patch is looking so great! We missed last season and so are only planting now ready for a Summer harvest. We have some warm Sun today and I actually feel cheerier as a result. Can't wait to see your Chooks, the Kids will absolutely love them! Mel x

  8. I so get your procrastination with the chicken coop. I was the same. I've been wanting to get chickens since 2008 but couldn't make a decision on the coop. In the end I used an old, pulled down one of my Dad's. Nothing's ever perfect but we finally have chickens and man, I'm in love with them. They are the bestest thing. You're going to love them. So excited for you!!! x

  9. We are just about to start a chicken coop too. We live in Sydney's inner west with small backyard. There's space for a 3 x 1.5 metre coop / run, though we haven't been able to find anything suitable in bunnings or online. I really look forward to seeing how you go with this!

PS I wrote a big comment when I first discovered your blog a few months ago, but it disappeared into internet-land. I have really enjoyed reading your blog.
