vintage sheet swap and on screen time

Gorgeous vintage sheet goodness from The Vintage Sheet Swap. Let me know if you spot yours in the bundles.  I enjoy wondering about all the different homes they came from. Also in the package was a sweet little vintage dress that I had purchased. Thank you Kellie for organizing the swap.

Off on a tangent (such is my thought processes pretty much most of the time) I'm putting myself on a self imposed computer ban. I find myself drawn like a magnet to my computer too many times a day. I love spending time on the internet. Reading blogs, looking at Pinterest, checking out local farms for sale, checking emails... and I could go on. There is a real lure to those that love to read and those that thirst for information. But there is a point where I need to put some limitations on myself. There is such a thing as information overload.

So, I've decided to limit myself to a bit of time here and there in the morning. No later than ten in the morning. I'm anticipating that the Spring cleaning I need to do may now get finished. As well as having the time to read a few books that are still remaining unread or half-read. It won't be easy, but I think it's time to put the brakes on (for now).

Do you too struggle with the delicate balance of screen time and real life?

  1. Yes it is very hard, especially when you are running an online business, I really need a break from the computer, well maybe social media only for a while.

  3. Yes - I've been thinking the same. I find that it tends to breed in me a growing discontentment of all that's 'not right' in my world and forgetting all that is good. I will be doing the same. A little bit is a good thing because it drives creativity, but we can all get too much of a good thing!

  4. I know what you mean with spending so much time on the computer. I'll be looking at all the beautiful blogs, then look at the clock and an hour has passed.
With all the lovely vintage sheets now I've got the motivation to get into a bit of sewing instead of being online so much.
Two of the sheets I found were the one on the right of the orange ones and on the right of the dark blue ones below it.
Do you have any plans for what your going to sew with them? x

  5. My rule is that I only use the computer when the kids are in bed. I just turn it off during the day then I don't have to fight the urge to 'check it' every so often. The 'checking it' always turns into much longer chunks of time where I should be doing other things. Also, I find that when I allocate specific times for using the computer I enjoy it a lot more and don't feel guilty or rushed.
Lovely vintage sheets. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make with them.

  6. Oh yes. I do struggle. As soon as I find myself going into zombie mode I walk away. Well, sometimes. All the beauty and information can be overwhelming. And sometimes it can be inspiring.

  7. Gorgeous collections of vintage fabric. I like how you have them sorted in colour families, very pretty. I am feeling like I am in the same place as you are, I think like you I need to put some limitations on my internet time too because I know that I would be much more productive. Thank you for another prompt for me I think I'll need to work out a schedule too. Have a good day and enjoy your reading. xo

  9. Yes, I do spend way too much time reading blogs, and pinterest is great eye candy but such a time waster. It's the iPad just flip it open and off you go!!

  10. I like the 10am rule, time flies on the screen and before you know it you've wasted the day. Loving your sheets.

  11. Simply yes! Every time I have a cuppa tea I sit down at the laptop (like now). I told myself not to go on it today...but here I am...I am getting off as soon as I comment here though :)

I need to put this laptop out of sight (locked cupboard) for a while and concentrate on the important things in life!

    Lovely vintage sheets...

  13. Gorgeous fabrics Tania and yes I have to put limits on the computer use too. When I breastfeed Ben I read emails and clean up my inbox. I also sick to blog visiting mainly in the evenings and visit my favourites only a couple of times a week....however as you blog quite regularly I tend to visit here about 3 times a week! I need to make a set time morning and evening and stick to it...but it is hard! I received 'that book' today and I am about to go and have a little quiet and late night read!

  14. I meant 'stick' to blog visiting...not 'sick'!

  15. our vintage sheet fqs arrived today too. i spent a good couple of hours with aila admiring them, sorting them into colour piles and choosing our favourites.

the navy one with the white daisy (light blue middle) is from my mums linen cupboard. takes me back to my childhood when i see it.

i don't watch any tv really, so this is my screen time. lately i've been making an effort to switch off my laptop though and disconnect it, otherwise i flick it open way too often throughout the day.

  16. I know Tania, I especially get sucked in to craft things. What can I make next? What fabric do I like? And before I know it half the morning is gone. I could have accomplished so much in that time. I'm trying to to limit myself to every second day, but I still keep sneaking on.

On a completely different note the blooms on that ornamental peach are absolutely divine!

  17. None of mine there, but a beautiful collection nonetheless!!! :) I got mine in the mail the other day too and have looked excitedly at them a number of times.

I have REAL trouble when it comes to the internet. I love reading blogs, clicking link after link and looking things up. I have been thinking about how to slow it down (says me, typing this in bed at 11pm)... The before 10am thing is good but Nell is awake and active so I am not able to go on the computer before then anyway. I often want to read but pick up the computer instead. I often think it was much easier when there were no such things as laptops and you had to go to a separate room alone to be on the computer! It's just too easy now.

Thanks though, I am going to think about how this could work for me too!!! xo
