It took a couple of weeks of sporadic pattern cutting and sewing. But top B from The Stylish Dress book is finally hanging in the wardrobe, ready to wear. I've had good intentions of sewing a whole wardrobe of dresses and tops after completing this tunic. But the truth of the matter is, it is just a little too difficult right now to commit to that amount of sewing. Particularly with the littlest one being very interested in scissors and patterns, or more accurately, interested in tearing them up. And lets not go into the obsession with the ironing board.
So I do what I can, when I can.
I'd heard these patterns are quite roomy, so I went with the 8. Plenty of room to spare, despite still breastfeeding. The upper arms were a little more snug, but still comfortable to wear.
The fabric was a Japanese cotton from Spotlight.
And next on the sewing list? I have pattern N cut out from the same book. I have a dressing gown pattern cut out for Julia (who desperately needs a new one, yes I think this is number 1 on the list) and perhaps if all goes well, for the other kiddies too. It can be a tricky balance sharing the sewing love around.

ohhh.. love this! i had grand plans on my school holidays to make a dress from that book but never seemed to find the time. It's the starting that i find intimidating...

That looks so good! I am so happy that they started making these books in english.. so much easier than trying to figure out the patterns in japanese!
Did you know that they also just translated 'happy homemade' into english? (it's my favourite japanese kids pattern book by far)..

you look gorgeous tania. i love this top, very comfy and practical looking but stylish too. i know what you mean by sharing the sewing love around. i tend to stick with the littlest one but i am determined to sew some grown up things this year as well.

Lovely top and great fabric. We sew what we can with the space that we have. My kids still love playing with scissors and knocking the ironing board. :)
wow & it looks great on you! i've made that pattern before {but with short sleeves} plan on making another one & seeing yours i might just have to go with the longer sleeves this time!

I think you do really well getting things done with young children. There are no little ones here and I dont achieve half of what you do lol!
My mum used to get the play pen out when she wanted to do sewing. Not for putting me in though. She would put herself and sewing machine inside the pen and I couldn't interfere with what she was doing but could still be near. She said it worked a treat!

I generally don't like the vintage 60s patterns because I remember them not only coming into fashion, but going out again as well. But that is fabric gorgeous. The top and you look beautiful. Another job well done, Tania.

Excellant pattern. Looking at it on the hanger I thought it looked too short(neither here nor there) but in full get up it looks perfect! Where about's in spotlight do you find Japanese fabric??? I am currently re-fashioning a few older pieces at least in my head. Yet to get out the sewing machine :)
